Bruxism – Teeth Grinding – Pain

As an experienced Dentist I have been treating teeth grinding and jaw clenching (also called bruxism) for 40+ years. Treating excessive teeth grinding (Bruxism) that is causing jaw, face and neck pain with Botox or Azzalure can produced life changing improvements both reducing  pain and improving  facial shape.

The patients best suited to have Botox or Azzalure treatment are the ones that get jaw, face or neck pain as a result of their tooth grinding (Bruxism).

Bruxism is most commonly blamed on stress and there is definitely some truth in this. However, it should be noted that I have come across many relaxed patients who still continue to grind their teeth. Also, treatments to help patients relax often do not stop these patients from grinding their teeth.

Some of the problems Caused by Bruxism and Teeth Grinding

  • Jaw and facial pain including headaches
  • Tooth wear
  • Fractured teeth
  • Pain and stiffness in the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint) and surrounding muscles, which can lead to temporomandibular disorder (TMD
  • Disrupted sleep (for you or your partner).

Bruxism and Treating Teeth Grinding

Your Dentist can make you a mouth guard or splint, this helps some people. However, many patients give up wearing them over time as they often do not stop the teeth grinding or the pain. (Bruxism).

Even though a mouth guard may not stop you grinding, it can by stopping the hard surfaces of your teeth touching together reduce tooth wear and prevent tooth damage.

Other treatments include muscle-relaxation exercises, sleep hygiene, cognitive behavioural therapy and so on. I have found these treatments to be a waste of your time and money.

Botox/Azzalure Treatment (A Game Changer)

This is amazingly simple to do and is a successful treatment which significantly reduces/eliminates pain caused by teeth grinding (bruxism).

The treatment is easy to do when done by an experienced practitioner such as myself. It consists of injecting Botox/Azzalure into the masseter muscle of the jaw, this is the main muscle that is used to grind teeth.

By placing Botox/Azzalure into the correct portion of your masseter muscle it is possible to shrink the masseter muscle and reduce its activity so that the shape of your face improves (it is not so square). Also, if you are suffering from muscle tension in this area and grind your teeth (particular at night)  then the Botox/Azzalure will help reduce/eliminate jaw, face and neck pain.

Botox/Azzalure treatment for bruxism costs £245 and is easy to do.

Teeth Grinding

I have been grinding my teeth in my sleep for quite a while and was prescribed a mouthguard by my Dentist, which did not help much and I did not like wearing it. I was getting headaches, painful neck, and jaw ache, which I found unbearable. The pain disturbed my sleep and I often had to take pain killers during the day. I had a consultation with Dr Lawson. He explained that Botox given into the correct jaw muscles can help reduce the clenching and the pain. I have never had any Botox treatment before and I was a little nervous. Dr Lawson was very reassuring and put me at ease during the treatment. Two weeks after the treatment the intense discomfort in my jaw and the head and neck pain all disappeared. I also noticed an improvement in my jawline Thank you Dr Lawson. SE

We look forward to seeing you
